You know it is important to have good posture, but what exactly is that? This video will give you the basic landmarks and a couple common deviations in 34 seconds. Then, you’ll find out how it helps your shoulders, hips, and knees.
How Posture Affects Your Shoulders
Your shoulder joint has many narrow spaces in it. Proper posture keeps these small spaces open, which allows them to move smoothly without excessive friction or pinching of muscles, tendons, and other structures. This kind of friction or pinching that has been occuring on a small scale, but over a long period of time, is responsible for many common shoulder pains and injuries.
How Posture Affects Your Hip And Knees
Posture is not limited to just the upper body, it has implications for the whole body. In order for the hips to go through their full range of motion, the upper body has to go through its own set of complimentary movements. Good posture, as mentioned, keeps structures in your upper body moving smoothly without exessive friction, pinching, or even jamming. That mobility is essential in order for the hips to move freely.
This free movement of the hips matters because they are a larger, more robust joint than the knee. When the hips move well, they are more able to take on loads and pressure, which takes stress off of the knee joint.
