Andrew Schaeffer Bio

Andrew Schaeffer, CSCS, USAW, PN1

I have been a personal trainer and strength and conditioning coach in New York City for over ten years. I grew up on a farm in Ohio where I ran track and cross country, sports I pursued throughout high school and college. After receiving my degree, I spent five years living in Europe, where I fell in love with teaching. My experiences as a runner and a teacher inform my approach to health and fitness coaching, which is focused on educating as much as delivering a workout.

As a coach, I specialize in strength training, olympic weightlifting, and the roots of behavior change with a particular interest in the role that systems such as culture and society play in health. For me, the bottom line is that fitness does not happen in a vacuum. It’s part of an amazingly interconnected system of personal, social, and environmental conditions. The more we look at all of it together, the greater the impact we can make.

Besides working with individuals in the gym, I can be found delivering strength and conditioning programs to professional performers, presenting at conferences, or with my head in a book, pursuing my master’s degree in mental health counseling.
